While redwood is also really easy to look after and to work with, there are some very expensive redwoods as well as some cheaper versions.

The different grades that you can expect to find include the cheaper Construction Heart and Deck Heart which will contain nots and is uded for load bearing applications near the ground.

Construction Common and Deck Common contain sapwood and knots and are used for decking and above the ground Merchantable Hear is all heartwood, contains large knots and is used near the soil.

Building a puzzle box requires a little more attention than just some of the simple designs that you may already have used.   In this download we have a great heart shaped puzzle box amoungst others.

The real secret to getting this box right is how you deal with the finishing and fittings.  You have to make sure that all the surfaces are rubbed down until they are completely smooth.  The mating faces that are going to be glued together and the laces that are to slide over each other need to be the smoothest of all.

When it comes to the gluing, you should start with using double sided sticky tape only glue when you are absolutely sure that you have the whole thing together and know which parts need to be glued and which ones not.

This is a great valentines gift if you want to first frustrate and then please your partner.  The puzzle box is always great and women love a hiding place that is beautiful for their little treasures.

It really isn’t difficutl to create something like this.  The art is in the jigging and using a jig is really very easy.  You won’t have to worry about angles and calculations, all you have to learn is how to work a very simple piece of machinery.

All this is done with crown moulding, which can be purchased in so many different shapes and sizes.   By chosing different designs, you can build a massive variety of different looking boxes.  The most popular finishes include oak, cherry and poplar and as they come in a variety of different sizes, this is something you will have to take into consideration when working with your jig.

Another thing to consider when using crown moulding is that somtimes there are grooves in the backside of the wood.  If you want to have a smooth finish inside of your jewerly box, then you will want to make sure that the back side of your chosen piece is smooth before you buy it.

You don’t have to limit your jewelry box plans to just crown moulding however.  There are so many fantastic designs that you could work from and one of the best things about working with small objects is that there is a lot more leeway to designing your own customised woodworking projects.
